Mr. Jasper Cothran, Sr. 84, entered into eternal rest on October 18, 2022. He was the son of the late Jasper Paul Cothran and Rena Byrd Cothran and husband of Viola Littlejohn Cothran. The facility that was selected in 1933 to be the founding location for the Callaham Funeral Home business was the building that was formally the John-Nina Hospital. The hospital was constructed in 1913 by the Nina and Worth Littlejohn family. The Littlejohn family created and operated in the city of Spartanburg the first and only licensed black hospital in this building until 1932, when it was merged with Spartanburg General Hospital.

Linda told the county medical examiner via phone, that my father had NO NEXT OF KIN, while her immediate cousin instructed that to him as well. Instead, the employee- suggested her immediate relatives name who also was on the phone with the medical examiner to claim the body! Well thankfully, she called other relatives to inform them of her "planned services" and as I got wind- I was able to claim MY father's body to give him a proper burial.
